Mr. Robert Kirby said: “MGM Macau Eco TrailHiker has become one of the most popular annual sports events in the region. We have worked hard to make the annual event more environmentally friendly and sustainable, We are happy to see the enormous support from the public for 10 years and effort by our title sponsor MGM, government and other sponsors that helped make the 10th Anniversary a great success.”
Macau TrailHiker launched 10 eco action initiatives, serving as the guideline for the event by following a “Think Reusable, Not Disposable” mentality. Specifically, the organiser aimed to reduce the usage of plastic bottles and paper cups during the event and encouraged our 20km and 30km participants to bring their own bottles for the race. At the water stations, paper cups were also replaced by the reusable cups. Furthermore, the organiser recruited Eco Team Volunteers to ensure the trails were clean and to further promote eco-education. The organizer strived to raise public awareness of the ecological and environmental protection along the greener side of Macau, to encourage and call for green actions from the public.
